More Local Access Only problems

I have just acquired a brand new HP 9160eax laptop running Vista Home Premium.
Out of the box it ran up and connected to the internet via my WiFi
Connection and downloaded a number of updates.
The Network Map showed 3 of the 4 local computer (all running XP)
All seemed well until I rebooted.
Since then it flatly refuses to allow access to either my internal network
or the internet.
I know its seeing the router, at least partially as the DNS Server is
correctly set, but the default gateway is blank and the IPv4 address (on the
wifi at least) is a local address 169.254.204.220

If I connect the hard wire the IPv4 address is correctly assigned via DCHP.

I have read various posts and tried disabling IPv6 and setting manual
addresses. I have also turned off all Wifi encryption and as much of firewall
(Norton) as I can manage to get too.

The above was made after a clean reboot, and waiting a few minutes to allow
all the connections to resestablish.

Well since the rest of the network is working fine, and it did connect before
vista downloaded some updates I am loathe to mess with anything else.

I've experimented a bit more and I can ping the xp machines from the vista
machine, I can even ping Yahoo.com but not connect to them via explorer or
internet explorer.
