I have a Dell Dimension 9100 running fully updated Windows XP Professional
and although I have Wireless Broadband on a home network I retained a pay as
you go internet connection through my internal modem. I recently updated some
drivers and everything appeared to work fine. However, when I next used the
telephone modem, once dialling started I got a blue screen and the following
message:
STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000092, 0x9005E9C, 0x80550150, 0x00000000)

HSF_DP.sys- Address B9005E9C base at B8F5C000, DateStamp 3fb8d37d

I have also found that I am unable to run System File Checker.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Gerry. I have now downloaded a new modem driver, release date
18/08/2006 from the Dell Drivers site. However, when I tried to update
through Device Manager I am informed that the existing driver dated
07/01/2004 is the most suitable. Therefore I did not solve the problem.
Fortunately I am still fully functional through my broadband but wish to
retain the dial up connection so must keep searching for a solution. I cannot
figure out why I have lost the System File Checker.

Can we check what model your modem is as there are a number of drivers
being offered on the Dell web site.

This freeware programme is excellent for getting information
about your computer:
Everest Home Edition (freeware)

Tip: To copy select Report, Quick Report, Plain Text, highlight
required text, right click and select copy. However, whilst this
is fine for posting small amounts of information into newsgroup
messages longer reports will irritate other newsgroup
subscribers.

I also think we need to resolve the problem with System File Checker.
Run it and note the time of failure. Then check Event Viewer for Warning
/ Error Reports in the System and Application logs for when the error
occurs and post copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, and
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&sd=tech

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you should
double click for further information. You can copy using copy and paste.
Often the link will, however, say there is no further information.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click
on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now
start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This
will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report complete with links
into the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event
Viewer.

Hope this helps.
