Montor will not standby

In Power Options I choose monitor to standby after 5 minutes idle. Sometimes
the monitor does just that but most tmes after 5 minutes the monitor will
just go blank for half a second then come back on. Anyone know what the
problem could be? Theres no other non system programs running.

I remember having this problem way back when. Worth a shot.
Right-click My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager > expand
(+) Mice & other pointing devices > right-click your mouse driver & select
Properties > Power Management > uncheck box 'Allow this device to bring the
computer out of standby', OK. I would logoff & log back on.

If you have an optical mouse, it could be moving. Try putting it on your
desk/table upside down.

You conception of "inactivity" differs from what the operating system uses
to detect inactivity. Just because you are not typing on the keyboard does
not mean the computer is inactive! What programs do you leave running? What
screen saver are you using?
