Monkeyware.co.uk - bad news

Hi, I am new here.
I just wanted to join and leave a note on my experience with the company monkeyware.co.uk in the hope that it might save others some money and hassle.

I bought my 'Practical Gaming' PC in august 2005, and now, over a year later, it still does not work as it is meant to. I know that it is just luck that some PC's just have lots of problems, but the way that my complaints have been handled is just worse than appaling.They did not reply to emails, ignored phone calls, and never called back when they said they would. After a year, I am left needing to buy a new PC, and having to go through the hassle of officially complaining to them for breach of contract under the Sale of Goods Act.

In conclusion, they need to pull together their customer services.

that makes me feel better, its only me they hate then. Is your copy of windows valid? I paid for it and have never recieved my CD, and still have a pirate version. which is incredibly irritating as im a web developer and now cant download IE7. I have truly given up with them. I can't abide rich's idleness, so as soon as i have sorted my moving house, im selling the pc (or smashing it to bits) and buying from someone who isn't a complete dunce

Hey Abi, This is Rich from Monkeyware. I remember selling you a PC when our company first started up. I must say I am extremely sorry for any problems you had with us. I can although tell you, in more detail how it all came about. After 9 months you reported you had a problem with your PC and we agreed to pay for any parts and labour incurred, you had a local engineer that you knew of repair the PC and REINSTALL WINDOWS. You then had the problems with an "invalid copy". This was because obviously the engineer had done this. We then agreed to fix your PC if you sent it back to us but unfortuneatly you did not box the item and only wrapped it in newspaper and put it on our transit van (Amtrak). This obviously destroyed the internals of your PC. Your PC was flagged as warranty void due to the "invaid" copy of windows, internal tampering in the case and the fact it was only sent to us in 2 mms thick of news paper. Please if you find anything I have said unfair please do not hesitate to email or replay.

nice to hear from you finally. Yes, that once i sent it back it was in newspaper because when I told you i didn't have a box, you said to just make sure it was covered and that newspaper would be fine. Yes the other engineer that fixed it replaced the windows with an invalid copy (you still owe me the £70 for that and have managed to ignore me everytime I have asked for it). This is not to say it was not invalid before. I have never had a valid copy on the PC. Not the day it was bought, and not any of the days it was returned to me from you or anyone else. And I still do not have the CD I paid for.

Also, the second time the PC was shipped back (in a box which you, or Sam rather, kindly sent to me), it was returned to me with half the front cover missing. there are still large holes in the front where the 5.25 drive bays have not been re-covered. I have pictures of it as it came out of the box. The entire front panel was coming loose, and one of the corners was chipped.
The version of windows you put on to replace the invalid one from the engineer? Its invalid too.
The email I sent to 3 of your monkeyware addresses about these problems when it was returned last time, has yet to be replied to, despite my obvious request for acknowledgement.
My pc still wont play most videos, it still churns, and it still crashes

I am tired of chasing you, and leaving messages with your Mother/Dan/Mikedave. After over a year of trying to get customer service, I am thankful that you have finally apologised. Allbeit on a public forum rather than by phone/letter, im sure you are trying to save face here to future potentials which is understandable.

I do not want to argue, there is no way I can be consoled now. I will be selling the pc as soon as I have moved, and buying one elsewhere

EDIT to add: With regards to your message, I sent the PC to you in newspaper *before* it was seen by anyone else. It came back from you still broken, and then I said i did not want the hassle of sending it to you again (as it was returned a few days late) so you said for me to find an engineer up here. You did not tell me that by hiring this external engineer (on your direction), I would be breaching my warranty. I would have looked myself, but oh wait, you never sent me that with my order either, despite me asking for it when I recieved the PC. I have all this logged via emails, phone bills, and letters with various different parties.

Abz, I to loath monkeyware, I bought a pc from them April 06 I think it was and to cut a very long story short which I will go into if requested I was left with no pc (as it is still with them) and none of my money back ! Like you I got to know Rich's mum better than the man himself and he never replied to emails calls etc.

thats a big shame. Since my troubles, I have heard nothing from anyone at monkeyware. I have bought a new PC from www.pcspecialist.co.uk and their service is truly outstanding, not just in comparison to rich's bollocks, but in general. Highly recommend them if you are yet to find a replacement for your other.
My old pc is going to the incinerator
