Monitor won't work until xp is loaded

Recently my monitor doesn't function properly in dos mode, it has a major vertical hold problem. I am unable to read the screen. and it now longer works until windows has loaded please help. I need to use the dos mode

An interesting problem, I don't know how to help you but
I would check your BIOS for any monitor settings you
migth be able to change (namely Refresh Rate), but if oyu
need to access dos, use the Command Prompt found in
windows. Start>Run> Type "cmd"

Mitch the monitor is garbled there all so. I have changed the refresh and resolution settings. any more suggestions??????????????
