monitor won't sleep

I have windows XP, with an HP Pavilion f1703 monitor. this is the first
monitor ever that won't turn off when I set it to. I change the settings,
tell it to turn off after 20 minutes, 30 minutes, etc. it does so for a day
or two and then stays on all the time. i've taken to turning off the monitor
manually.

any suggestions on fixing this problem will be most appreciated.

You may need to turn on the advanced power management in the BIOS, as the windows
APM settings only if the BIOS APM settings are on.

thanks for the tip. but going to that screen with all those choices, finding
Power Off, clicking it, doesn't seem to actually change the setting in my
computer, does it. How do I perform this operation?
thank you.
