my monitor shuts off randomly. the mouse freezes and a couple seconds later
the monitor goes black. the only way to get it to come back on is to reboot.
1st i thought it was the monitor so i got a new one but it still does the
same thing. i sent the tower to a service center thinking it may be something
covered under my warranty but the couldnt find anything wrong. they also said
that they left it on for hours and it never shut off on them. oh yeah i'm
running windows xp on an emachines computer. can anyone help!

Low ac voltage? Missing earth in ac plug? Miswired plug? Does
it ever coincide with a motor starting in the house?
Refrigerator, pump, etc.?

Just a few thoughts.

see what happens if you disconnet all the cables from the pc except your
mouse, monitor and keyboard?

You might also want to switch ac sockets, there may be a short in the one
you are using.....

the problem for the other user may not be the same as yours. Her system was
working fine according to the technician. Therefore, her issue is likely
caused by something she is doing or has not.

Your problem "just freezng up" tells me little else. .... maybe you should
make a new posting and provide more info....

My computer 'freezes' randomly when used or when idle - the only way to to
restart is to turn off by holding on button. It does not appear to be any
one action or programme that causes this. The screen freezes and nothing
will work, control alt delete has no effect. Sometimes it will not freeze
for a couple of hours, othertimes quite soon after start up!

Any ideas please?

ok, make sure your screen saver is deactivated and or blank out the desktop
image. Possibly your desktop image and or screen saver may be "large" files
and consume the memory.

ok, try releasing some memory. go to start > run > msconfig > startup tab >
disable all > reboot, see if this helps..

If you still have a problem, try downloading system mechanic from
systemmechanic.com It is free for 30 days and by using all its options it
may eventually tune up your pc. If it works, you should buy it and have it
handy. I think its free after all the rebates from comp usa or something.....
