Monitor resolution

I have HP PC which has a Nvidea geforce 7500 LE display adapter, at present
I'm running a normal ratio monitor at 1280 x 1024 but am considering going
widescreen, can anybody tell me what sort of resolution this adapter can
handle, I don't want to waste my money on something that won't work
properly?

The 7500LE is an OEM-only model, not sold at retail, which makes it a little
harder to find specific information. (www.hp.com may offer some as part of
the specs of your system. It would have been useful for you to post the
model number.)

The release notes on the latest Vista drivers:

state that the 7500LE will support resolutions up to 2048X1536. 1920X1200 is
included explicitly. These don't include the 1440X900 and 1680X1050 that are
common for 19" and 22" widescreen monitors, but I expect that card will
support them with drivers ( really just a .inf file) from the monitor's
manufacturer. (The modes aren't listed for the Geforce 8 series cards
either, which are the latest and greatest models.)

Don't buy a 30" (2560X1600) monitor to use with it, as the 7500LE doesn't
have the special DVI connector (dual link, which is not the same as having
two DVI connectors) to drive it at full resolution.

Giving the model ought to be more help than it is. ;-)

HP offers some Vista drivers for that model; they appear to be nVidia
drivers, version 98.16. (I haven't seen those before.)

Only the standard resolutions are listed, but I'm pretty certain that the
normal widescreen LCD resolutions (1440X900 and 1680X1050) would be no
problem. (1920X1200 is listed, but monitors that support that are 24" or
larger, and still somewhat expensive.)

HP does not appear to offer any .inf files for download for their monitors
for Vista. I suppose that means that they aren't necessary.

I would have liked to offer perfect certainty that your graphics card will
correctly drive ordinary widescreen monitors. I think that you shouldn't
worry, though.
