Monitor Problems

Hi,

Recently I rebooted my computer having installed some Windows Updates. When
my computer came back up, the screen had moved itself slightly to the left.

Naturally, my first instinct was to correct this using the monitor options
however, I have found that 2 of the butons are not working (they were okay
about a month ago!)

The set up on my moitor is
1 < > 2

1 - Activates the monitor menu
<> - selects left and right
2 - chooses menu option

The issue I have is that the < and 2 buttons have stopped reponding meaning
that although I can enter the menu, I am unable to select anything!

If I press > before anything else, I go to the contrast setting which I can
increase (but not decrease!)

Using my Videa Card settings, I was able to move the screen back to the
right although not enough to fully correct the screen. Due to this, I am
losing a small amount of the screen.

I have increased my display to 1152 by 864, but this results in a horrible
back border which I can't get rid of becuase I am unable to stretch the
screen!

Does anybody know if there is any software i can download that will replace
my monitor settings?

Thanks,
Simon

It would be helpful if you'd tell us what kind of monitor you have.

I'm not entirely sure of the monitor type as it came with the computer when
I originally bought it...

Only info I can provide from the monitor properties is as follows -

Plug and Play Monitor

Device type: Monitors
Manufacturer: (Standard monitor types)
Location: on NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400

There should be a sticker or stamped-in text on the back of the monitor
that tells you the manufacturer. If you never installed a driver for the
monitor then it will just display Plug & Play Monitor.

The thing is, it doesn't matter who made it. The swtiches or switch
mechanism would need replaced for adjustments via the monitor. Instead
you could try changing the refresh rate or adjustments available in the
video card driver. Yours is an nVidia card so you can download newer
video drivers with more adjustments if your present driver doesn't offer
any, the "detonator" drivers from http://www.nvidia.com. I don't recall
if the newest versions offer the most adjustment flexability or if some
older version might've. I do know that some versions only allow panning
the image L, R, U or D, but IIRC some also allowed stretching or shrinking
horizontal and vertical.

Monitor seems to be manufactured by Tiny...

I currently have the latest Video Driver installed for my Geforce card and
unfortunately this only allows me to pan the screen and not stretch/shrink
it.

I have changed the screen res and am adjusting to the smaller icons and
such! Not the perfect situation, but I can live with it :)

Thanks for the advise anyway....
