monitor freaking out

each time i turn on the monitor it scrolls sideways for a
while before actually comming up properly.There seems to
be multiple , blurry "clones" of my background at the
same time....you cannot even see icons. any ideas would
help..its driving me nuts.

Try the monitor on another computer. Looks good? Then your monitor is fine
and the problem is either your video card or your video driver. Restart your
computer in Safe Mode, which uses the standard VGA driver. Looks good? Then
your video card is fine, and you need to reinstall (or better yet, upgrade)
your video driver. Looks bad? Then your video card is shot (probably
overheated); time for a new video card.
