Monitor Flicks

ok guys i have a really odd problem, it only started a couple of days ago but its starting to really annoy me

basically what happens is everytime i right click an avi file or 'cut' using ctrl+x my screen goes black for a second then comes back saying 'adjusting' while it gets the picture central, its like turning the monitor off then back on

i've tried every file type i have on my PC and its only related to avi files?!

i've managed to find another VGA cable that was laying around from something or other and thats made no difference

if i right click on the desktop and go to Nvidia display it now lists 'analogue display' instead of LM17A ? so im not sure if its software related or the monitor itself ?

i'm gonna update the drives now but i'm not confident that will fix it

alright, i've updated the drivers and the problem with avi files has gone but now it happens when i open the nvidia control panel and it thinks my monitor is a CRT ?!
