monitor flickers once in a while, after I updated my drivers

Once in a while my monitor goes black for a second like
it does when you change the screen resolution, but for no
reason. I think it started after I updated direct x to
v.9 but then it sort of went away and now I recently
updated my nvidia geforce 4/mx driver and it has started
again, much more frequently (about once every 5 minutes).
Any help on this would be great, thanks.

Go to device manager to your nvidia and "roll back" your
driver and if this helps with your problem, don't update
driver. Unless you are having problems, rule of thumb
comes into play "don't fix what don't need fixing".
