Screen flicker during login

Vista Business - just upgraded from Samsung 22" TFT flat panel at 1680 x 1050
to Samsung 24" TFT flat panel at 1920 x 1200 resolution. ATI Sapphire HD 2400
graphics card. Latest monitor and graphics drivers installed. No problem with
smaller screen, but now screen flickers during startup / logon while Vista
welcome screen is displayed - looks like poor sync ; however, problem goes
away once desktop (and 'proper' ATI screen drivers) load.
My guess is that the default Vista screen driver is being used during
startup and cannot cope with the 1920 x 1200 TFT monitor. This is not
critical, apart from a nagging worry that it might damage the monitor, but it
is annoying. I'm using the standard (single width) DVI cable supplied with
the monitor. I need to get this resolved before recommending any further
upgrades to Vista.

this shouldn't effect the Monitor, as during post, the VGA drivers are not
installed, so it shows up in that manner. close your eyes while boot-up, and
you may not even think about it ;)
