I have the problem with that "Windows cannot find monitor.exe" thing coming up at the startup that started after removing a virus from my computer. The virus is toast and i have checked "monitor.exe" does in fact not exist anymore.

From what I understood from some other replies i have found on this forum the "monitor.exe" being gone doesnt matter and may in fact have been the virus, my problem now is that I cant make windows stop looking for it at startup.

I have looked in the system tools and found that on startup the following appears:
"explorer.exe monitor.exe" they both appear as quoted on the same line if that makes any sense, explorer i am familiar with but never with monitor.exe tagging along, this is also true in the registry, i have found an entry for this but dont want to touch it unless someone can tell me exactly what to do.

how do i make this nightmare end? oh yes and the symantech website wasnt helpful either

any help appreciated

thanks gareth

Try going to START > RUN > Type in REGEDIT
Should bring up the registry editor
Now go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENT
VERSION\RUN
You should see a key that looks at monitor.exe file.
Delete it if found.

Restart PC and you should have no problems :)

Use Regedit and as suggested in Jero's post, look at the Run, Run Once,
and Run Services keys under Current User and Local Machine. Find the
line with explorer.exe and monitor.exe and remove the monitor.exe bit.
