Monitor blacks out momentarily

Why does my Dell monitor that was bought with my Dell
system black out numerous times/day? It blacks out for
only a second or two, mainly when I am logging into a
user account or starting a new program.

The monitor might be going bad, the cable connection to the monitor might be
lose or the connection from the monitor to the PC may be loose, the graphics
card may not be well seated, a whole host of possibilities almost all of
them related to hardware issues as is the case with the above.
