monitor black

A recently occuring problem-my monitor goes totally black after about two
seconds of display. the power supply and all connections are good, its as
though the computer output to the monitor is switching off. if i power off my
monitor, &then back on again its ok for 2 secs & then black again. also if
the computer interrupts output to the monitor temporarily as between certain
stages of boot up the monitor will display again as normal but only for 2
secs. I'd be grateful for any advice

Sounds like a sick monitor. If you can borrow another monitor to test, you could determine if its the monitor or the video card in the PC.
