Monitor a building remotely from a home PC?

Hi all,

A friend of mine wants to monitor a building in the eastern states of
Australia from his home on the west coast. I was thinking he'd need to
do the following:

1. get a broadband connection for the building he wants to monitor
2. have that set up with multiple cameras
3. rent a server and have those feeds upload to the server
4. get broadband for his home to watch the recorded feeds from the
server at his leisure and manage the files remotely on the server or
burn them to DVD.

Am I on the right track here? Anyone know of a company that specialises
in this sort of thing (outfitting, servers, etc)?

There's actually dedicated hardware to do this - my friend does with
his amusement arcades. It has connections for multiple cameras and has
a built in web server so all you have to do is log into the IP address
with a browser. You DO need broadband on the camera end though.

Can you remember (or find out) the name of the hardware? And does it
only do real time monitoring or can you review what's been going on
earlier (ie- does it have any storage options)?
