Modify Firefox 1.5 to work with (almost) all extensions

Aaron, life's too short to engage in a nit picking argument. You'll
forgive me if I decline the offer to engage in one with you over all
this. Suffice it to say that you have your views and I have mine.

JC refusing to get drawn in an argument? Keep this up and all the trolls
won't have their fun anymore lol. :)

Dick,
Yesterday, I installed the excellent "MR Tech Local Install" extension
which, I believe, Aaron recommended in another thread:

https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=421&application=firefox

I just now installed the Calendar extension in Firefox:

https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=1270&application=firefox

(just to make sure we're talking about the same thing) which is updated
only to FF 1.5b1. As I installed it, the "MR Tech Local Install" extension
asked me if I wanted to "Override 'maxVersion' compatibility checking" and
I placed a checkmark in the box so as to do this. Then I shut down Firefox
1.5 and restarted it. When I look in the "Tools" menu there's an entry for
"Calendar" and selecting it opens a nice little calendar box. Clicking on
the "History" button sends me to a page where there is "This Day in
History" information.

Admittedly I haven't installed the extension in Thunderbird, but at least
I got it to work perfectly in FF.

I'm using Millennium Edition by the way.

Sorry, John, still gives me the same error, even using MR Tech Local
Install(which appears to be a really neat
plugin itself). For some reason I am also getting the German language
version of the Calendar("Kalendar"). Perhaps I'll fiddle with it again
tonight.

I've disabled all extensions and 1.5 works as it should. Fast and no
bugs. I can learn to live without extensions even if I do have to use
a few more keystrokes each day

I suppose that's one way to deal with the issue. However, in my case I'm
currently running 11 extension in FF 1.5 and it works as snappy as ever.

By the way, my thanks to Richard Kistler for pointing out that neat
Calendar extension.

The ICAL component is not properly registered.

This is with Firefox 1.5 and Thunderbird 1.5rc1 and the Calendar
Plugin 8.3+ downloaded this weekend. I performed the
<em:maxVersion> change as described above for both Firefox and
Thunderbird(two places in the install.rdf file), and installed. I
got the error message above along with the recommendation to go to
the following URL:
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=1228608&action=view
Which opens a webpage that says:
The attachment id 1228608 is invalid

I think you typoed the bugzilla id. Should be
<https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=122860&action=view>.

The instructions there are old, and for Mozilla, but they might help
with Fx. But note all the talk about having a version compatible with
the browser; I doubt the calendar extension will work with Fx 1.5
until they updated it.

The calendar team is busy with trying to get a final Sunbird 0.3 out,
which may mean the wait for the updated extension is longer. I use
Sunbird, so I'm ok with that, but it doesn't help you any.

John, just to be clear, I'm trying to run the Mozilla Calendar version of
Sunbird:

http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/sunbird.html,

not this calendar:

https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=1270&application=firefoxStrangely, I am able to view the options for the calendar in the extensionsmanager(or MR install), and they are in German. This is using the currentinstall of the calendar. No other German observed in Firefox. Also stillgetting the unregistered ICAL component. I guess I'll try a completeuninstall of Firefox(remove profiles, etc and registry info) and a cleanreinstall-possibly there is some configuration corrupted somewhere. TheFirefox exe says it is version 1.5 of the product and 1.8:20051.11116 of thefile, whatever that means. Thanks for suggesting M.R. Install. I had seen it but not gotten around totrying it. Its a big improvement over the built in extension manager.Dick

Nope, that's the url in the error message.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it doesn't appear to be applicable to
Firefox.

I agree. And my thanks to Aaron for pointing it out.

As for Mozilla Calendar (Sunbird), you might want to try uninstalling
the version you have and then installing the version located here:

http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/download.html#download_firefox

Of course, if there's any data you've created since first installing the
copy you have now, you'd want to back that up first.

It looks like there are different versions of Calendar for Mozilla and
Firefox. One would assume that the Mozilla version won't work with FF.

Yes, but you are most likely unable to "Customize" Prefbar as >>Q<<
pointed out in another thread. On the other hand, it should otherwise
still work.

Hmm, seems that the 'Images' checkbox has no effect anymore.
I sincerely hope somebody resumes development of this extension. It's
one of those that I wouldn't want to do without.

I agree. There is no substitute for PrefBar.
