Yes. As far as I know, Microsoft does *not* edit or control the groups in
any way. That's what I'm saying.
comes from their unofficial spokesperson... MVPs who ironically enough
make by far the most noise here.
That's a little bit circular
. How do you think people become MVPs inthe first place? They are selected because of their track record solving
other user's problems in newsgroups. You have to be active in a newsgroup,
to be an MVP. But, oh wait ... MVPs are so active in newsgroups ... so, they
must be Microsoft plants ...
The relationship between MVPs and Microsoft is pretty tenuous. MVPs are not
Microsoft employees. MVPs don't have any obligation to tow any Microsoft
party line. When I became a Microsoft MVP, it was unexpected and out of the
blue - one day I got an email saying, Congratulations you have been selected
as an MVP. Cool. I didn't have to attend a re-education camp, or anything.
Personally, I have 20+ years experience as a Unix user, and I have an AS/400
and a Sun Solaris box (SPARC, not that Intel crap) sitting under my desk.
Plus a few Linux boxes scattered around the place. I enjoy a big wide of
computing, far beyond the boundaries of Microsoft's technology. I'm also a
member of IBM's Partnerworld ISV program ... does that make me an IBM troll?
Sorry if this much truth is simply
too much for the stuffed shirt crowd.
Hey. My shirt is stuffed, because of my weight problem - nothing else.
Anyways, I'm not very interested in an extended argument about this. It
seems like we agree: the newsgroup is free and open and not controlled or
censored in any significant way by Microsoft.
