The modem we use to get into the internet,besides a data modem is it also a
voice modem and if yes from where in XP can i crosscheck this.

Check the name of your modem (it's in the control panel > classic view >
phone and modem options > second tab) and it will LIKELY say it there...
<blah> Voice/Fax/Data 56k v.92 etc... If not then search at
http://search.msn.com for the modem's stats by name.
