Modem: Wait for dialtone before dialing

Hello Everyone,

I am faced with the following problem: We have different laptops with
different modems. All laptops are on a 2003 domain and users should not be
power users or local administrators on their laptops. Some users are on the
road quite a bit and need the ability to modify their modem properties. They
especially need to be able to change the "Wait for dialtone before dialing"
property, but unfortunately that option is greyed out for normal users.

Does anybody have a tweak, some registry tip or policy idea - or just any
idea - how we can enable people to make the necessary change without making
them admins?

Any help or hint would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Joe,

Thanks for your answer. The problem is the other way around, though. The
"Wait for dial tone" option is activated in the modem properties but users
need to be able to turn it off. The modem is supposed to dial without waiting.

I have tried some modem commands e.g. ATX0DT [number] already, but even
though X0 supposedly means "Don't wait for dial tone" the setting in the
control panel modem properties seems to override the modem command.

Do you have any other ideas?

:-) HarryH
