Modem uninstalls after shutdown

I have a swannsmart turbo modem that uninstalls itself
after ever shutdown. I have a network card installed but
do notuse this. How can i make sure themodem keep its
configuration after shutdown?

Is this an external modem? If so this is normal for the NT series of
Windows. You must turn the modem on before starting up your computer because
XP checks for new hardware every time, and if the modem is turned off it
Windows assumes it has been removed and so frees up the resources for other
uses.
