I am on dial up with winxp. When online my modem is constantly downloading
something. How can I find out what it is downloading and where it is
putting it?

Are you on a dial-up or DSL/cable? If you're just noticing an ocassional
'activity' indicator, it's probably simple port probes and connectivity pings...
what some people like to call "background noise" because it's always
there. I prefer to call it harrassment and invasion of privacy, and that's
why there are firewalls. ;-)

so unless je is Lying, he is on Dial-Up.
Do you work for Microsoft, or do you just act like it??

Where is your help for the OP? At least he tried to offer some help.

To the OP
Install a firewall. Block all traffic. Dial up. Monitor what happens as you
give items (or don't give) permission to pass the firewall.
Run up to date software to check for spyware and viruses.

Hi Jack, it takes a lot of modem activity to make someone believe
that there's a download in progress, not usually visible on a dialup.
Do you work for Microsoft, or do you just act like it??

Have a nice day.
