Modem & TCPIP Settings for XP

I live in a part of the world that has no broadband and the telephone lines are
quite bad.

The upshot of this is that I cannot use V92 or V90 and have to throttle my modem
back to V34 to get even a half decent connection. Even then ping times indicate
a great deal of latency. It is no use complaining to the Telecoms company as
they have already made it plain that they are only obliged to supply
"functional" Internet access only - and nothing more.

In an attempt to improve things I was wondering if anyone knows of a source of
information for tuning TCP/IP for these circumstances? I am thinking of MTU,
RWIN settings etc, in order to get the best out of a poor dial up connection.

Thanks in advance.

You're probably getting as good as it gets. Windows XP can adjust various
settings to allow for the connection type, whereas older operating systems
needed to be tweaked for the connection speed and type. Dial-up is going to
be slow no matter what you do.
