Could somebody please tell me how to stop my modem from
disconnecting automatically after 2 hours

Network connections/modem/properties/options.

Your ISP may also have a "time out" on their dialup accounts. Nothing you
can do about that.

Curious. I was going to point him towards IE \ tools \ int, options \
connections \ settings \ advanced - hadn't known about the other. I'm
only chiming in here because network connections has me set for a 20
minute disconnect and IE has me at 15 minutes (a change that I made a
while ago). You'd think that the two would be coordinated.

Well, there are various utilities to feign activity and keep dialups
alive.

Your ISP is freeserve. One of its terms is that *it* will disconnect
you after 2 hours and without warning. Nothing you can do - and almost
all the UK dialup ISPs do something of the sort

Only against 'disconnect if idle' settings. This ISP counts time from
the point of connection, and pulls the plug, without warning, at two
hours. So provided the service is not overloaded you can dial straight
back - if it is loaded then someone else gets a chance

Including Ntlworld - it's about time they changed that 'option', although without the other UK providers doing the same - I would very much doubt it.

Most ISPs in Australia kick you if you don't d/l any traffic in 20 minutes

When England return home early (and I hope Prince Harry goes with them) they may take this idea back.

Not quite sure what Prince Harry is going to do out in Aus - apart from a bit of polo and a few raucous parties. It seems a bit much to expect the Aus people to have to pay for the £600,000 security bill - he'll probably take that amount as 'lose change'.

The government tourisnm minister tried to justify the $600,000 (approx Pd 300,000) by saying it will boost tourism. He's been howled down as noone believe you guys will come here because Harry is.

You are either going to come or not.

PS I'm related really vaguely to him. His 5th cousin (the Duke of York ? - 2nd in line) impregnated my 5th cousin in the 1700s.
(that might be great, great, great, great, great aunt/uncle). 5 generations ago our families had a baby.
