Modem problem?

A sudden thunderstorm knocked out my power at the time I
was connected to the internet. When the power came back
on, I tried to connect, but all that is happening is that
my computer freezes up. I don't hear it dialing, so I'm
assuming my modem is burned out. How do you replace a
modem? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

If you need to ask, your best bet would be to take it to a repair shop.

What the other person means is that you would have to open
the PC, make sure it is disconnected from the power, look
for the phoneline cable on the outside of the box and
follow it to the card that will be the card you will need
to replace, my suggestion is to purchace a US Robotics 56K
V.92, you can purchase an external modem which you would
not need to put inside the PC, you would have to purchace
a cable for it the store can tell you what you would need,
If you do decide to purchase an external still pull the
internal out. Just use a phillips screwdriver and pull it
out. Also if you go with internal purchase a PCI card.
When you have completed this process, boot the PC and XP
should ask for the cd, insert it and you are ready to go.
Oh plug the phone line back in.

I asked because I wanted to learn. Not sure why you even
replied.
