modem on hold

I just got this new Gateway computer and it has a modem on hold feature,
which I don't know how to use. I have searched help- files and found nothing.
I am online and suddenly I get a popup that says so and so is trying to call.
Do you want to answer or ignore. Of course I click answer and nothing happens
from there. I pick up the phone and hear all the noise from the modem itself.
Any answers would be appreciated.
Thanx

Wouldn't the answer to your question come from Gateway?

Maybe so. I have no idea if this is a certain modem type from Gateway, or if
this is an option that came with windows XP. EXCUSE ME for asking.

Connie;
Go to start, control panel, modem, click on properties. There you should
be able to see the options for the modem on hold feature. Sorry for
Willett's rudeness.
He might be wanting us to all have a bad day with him.
You might try calling Gateway and ask them the proper way to use the modem
on hold feature. There isn't much in the Windows Help Files on that subject.

Thanx R.S. for your KIND help. I went into the modem properties and found the
features but am not allowed to make any changes. All the bo0xes are checked
and cannot be changed for some unknown reason. I will take your advicde and
try Gateway. Thanx again.
