modem not recognized? ad-aware

My daughters pc is about 2 yrs old with XP. Apparently
she doesn't do maintenance often When she tried to go
on the internet there were so many pop-ups it froze up. I
use Ad-aware regularly on my pc, so I ran it on hers.
Now....it dials up and makes a connection but doesn't
connect with the net. Troubleshooting on the phone with
her provider they said it's looks fine on their end,
therefore must not be recognizing the modem? Does anyone
have an idea? Before I have to take the darn thing to
the shop...LOL Any advice appreciated.

I'd start by doing a run with a copy of the reflist.ref brought over
from your machine: there is no need to get on the net and get updates
until you need a new file. When you do, get on the net first, then run
it, rather than having it dial up itself

Also she may have had one of the nasties that obstructs AdAware from
running: get CWShredder from
