Modem Nightmare

For the past week or so, I've had a nightmare staying online.

Dialup & connect OK. I'm fine for about 10-15mins.. then the connection drops
off. Doesn't disconnect, just goes megaslow so that all pages timeout.
Right click on the DUN icon and disconnect.. but it pauses for about 5 secs
before it disconnects.

Connect again immediately... back to normal. Till about 10-15mins then itall
happens again.
Updated modem driver (Hayes PCI v92), changed the cable, tried other ISPs
(usually on Freeserve Anytime), tried with the Firewall off.. no change. The
only thing I've done to my PC in the past few weeks is add more RAM (512Meg upto
1Gb)

WindowsXP Pro Fully updated with all patches. AthlonXP2500+.

When you connect open the command prompt (run>cmd) and type tracert
microsoft.com
It will show hop time in milliseconds (ms) (avg. 50-250 ms on a
dial-up).When it slows down try tracert again to see where the hang-up is.
Just a start to trouble shooting your problem.
