modem monitor system tray

Back in Win98 when I made a modem contact with a remote PC system, I got a
modem connection indicator in the system tray, which I could click on to
check connection speed etc.

Is there a similar feature in XP which I simply can't find, or has it been
totally removed. (I'm not talking about DUN connections here). If it is gone
is there a 3rd party app which does the same thing ?

Thanks

Like I said - I am not talking about dial up networking here or any sort of
windows network/ lan/ wan etc

This is just one custom written application running in XP, using a modem to
contact a piece of remote (non windows) hardware.

In Win98 (if I am remembering correctly) a modem contact generated an icon
in the task bar which showed data transfer activity

Is there an applet out there which simply shows modem activity ?

Maybe LanLight --> http://www.dalesplace.net/download/lanlight.php

Thanks but it only seems to monitor LAN activity, not modem activity when
not associated with LAN. I tried an app called ToggleNetLights too which
does exactly the same thing.

What I appear to be looking for is something which is dedicated to the
modem, irrespective of other connections.
