Hi NG,

all of a sudden my modem does not sound any more when dialling up. I cannot
adjust that nowhere. In properties it is on "ON", but it does not sound. I
was trying to set up a guest account and therefore I wanted to set up a dial
up connection (which failed up until now!) How can I get my modem to sound
again when dialling up? And maybe how can I set up a internet connection for
the guest user account to go online?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Viktoria,

I had a similar problem with a USB modem that was using my soundcard to
output the dialtone and handshake signals.

The issue was resolved by installing an updated modem driver.

You might also want to have a look at device manager for any code 10 devices.
Click start -> run and type devmgmt.msc then click ok.
Code 10 devices will have a yellow sign with an exclamation mark in it.

You can fix these problems normally by uninstalling and reinstalling the
device drivers.

I suspect that your modem may have added a wave device to the system, and it
is either muted or the driver is corrupt... however this is only speculation
, and you may have an external modem with it's own speaker built in...

Hope the above helps either way.

The modem should work from a User Account or Guest Account.

You just won't be able to download and install software, etc.

What kind of modem is it - Internal or external?

If you hear the dialling from the modem from within the PC, it should have a
setting under Phone and Modem Options in the Control Panel that enables the
sound and increases/decreses the volume.

EASY to fix. When you adjust the modem tone by the control panel it overrides
your connection's settings....check both places

Hi Savage,

thanks a lot for your posting. I got sound-, video- and modem-chip on the
motherboard. The driver is a 4 in 1 driver. I found out what causes the lost
of tone, it happens whenever I either use a password for my user account
(admin) or activate a next user account (guest). As soon as I deactivate
guest respectively take off the password the modem got back its sound.

Dear greetings,
