modem hangs up with error 734 under XP

Hi all,

I am running XP pro and have got troubles to get online with my current
ISP. My modem is a Generic softK56
on COM1. I am getting an error 734, the PPP link Control
Protocol was terminated and I think that the modem is the
cause.

The error message suggests to check my ISP services and/or
to clear check box enable LCP extensions and/or select Allow
unsecured Protocol. I have checked and tried all the
possible options and am still getting that error 734. I
reckon it may rather be in the modem settings. This is a log
file extract that I found in the modem settings:
05-15-2005 14:42:05.797 - An unknown response was received
while attempting to connect, but CD was high so completing
successfully
05-15-2005 14:42:05.797 - Connection established at
45333bps.
05-15-2005 14:42:05.797 - Error-control on.
05-15-2005 14:42:05.797 - Data compression on.
05-15-2005 14:42:06.588 - Hanging up the modem.
05-15-2005 14:42:06.588 - Hardware hangup by lowering DTR.
05-15-2005 14:42:07.399 - Detected CD dropped from lowering
DTR

Some other modem details:
modem protocol: hardware flow control enabled, modem error
control enabled, modem compression enabled
data connection preferences: data protocol; Standard EC,
compression enabled, Flow control; hardware
Hardware settings: data bits; 8, parity; none, stop bits; 1
Use FIFO buffers

What parameters to change? Why is the modem hanging while the
connection is established? the modem works OK with another ISP. Is it
possible to have specific parameters for an ISP? any suggestions or
advice to fix my pb? Can anybody help me? Thank you
