Modem Dial tone is not coming

Namita

Hi

After I have installed Windows XP, the modem dial tone is not coming anymore
when I dial up for the internet.
I have the latest driver installed for the modem also.
What could be the reason? It was working fine with windows 2000.

Thanks
Namita

Go to Control Panel - Phones and Modems. On the Modems page, highlight
it and click Properties. On the Advanced page enter
M1L3
in the 'Extra initialisation settings' enter
(The L3 is max volume; down to L0 for quietest)
and Apply

control panel \ system \ hardware \ device manager
Expand the modem area, right-click your modem
In the modem tab, use the slider to turn on sound. Apply and okay your
way out, reboot.

If no joy, return to the same area, advanced tab this time. In the box
for extra settings, put M2 for fairly loud.

In that case I fear you have one of the cheap soft modems that won't
produce sounds. Like the AC07 chip on my motherboard which I use as a
reserve device
