Modem Configuration

I am working with an XP Home edition on an IBM desktop. I have attempted to
install a telephone system and it is telling my computer is not set up with
a voice modem which to me does not make sense and I am concerned the
software company is hosing me.

My modem specs are as follows-

Modems - Conexant HCF V90 56K Data Fax PCI Modem Attached to COM3

Under the Advanced Tab - The following telephony providers are installed on
this computer

Microsoft H.323 Telephony Service Provider (Configurable)
Microsoft HID Phone TSP (not configurable)
Microsoft Multicast Conference TAPI Service Provider (configurable - "Data"
"Group 3 Fax" "Group 4 Fax" "Voice")
TAPI Kernel-Mode Service Provider (not configurable)
Unimodem 5 Service Provider (not configurable)

Are they correct in saying I am not set up properly and if so, what do I
have to do to change this?

Thanks and hopefully this is the correct group to ask such a question.

Hi,

What model of IBM desktop?

Many Conexant HCF modems are not voice capable, those that are specifically
state that they are. Just because voice telephony services are available
does not mean the modem is voice capable.

Hi Rick,

It is a NetVista A21i with an Intel Pentium 3
....so I guess the long and short is that I am going out to buy a voice
compatible modem.
Thanks for your help and confirmation.

Denis

You have it correct, the specifications on that system are for a data/fax
modem, not voice capable.
