Modem can't open com ports

Toshiba Tecra S1 modem will not open com ports. This
happens with both the internal modem as well as with a
PCMCIA card. The modem was working fine for several
months, then about a week ago the laptop was infected with
virus's (w32.randex.d, w32.randex.f and
backdoor.irc.tastyred). The virus's have been removed but
since then the modem has not worked. The error it gives
is "can't open port" In the log file it shows an error
of: Opening modem device failed. Error 000005aa.
