mobo front side connector problem in new case

I’m trying to help a friend put his computer back together, he had a
hard drive fail, and the original case wouldn’t start up after that.
The manufacturer sent out a replacement drive, and he bought a new ATX
case. The mobo is a Soyo KT600-AL, and the connector pins on said mobo
are:
A B C D E F G H I J
2 |--|--|--|--|--|=|=|=|=|=|
1 |--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|

2 A-B: Pwr-led
2 D-E: Reset
2 F-J: No pins but mobo says: reserved g led and g-sw
1 A-B?: RSVD HD LED
1 G-J: Speaker

The new case has a plug that resembles a standard component plug for
the power lights. However, on the mobo, there is no marking for Power
Switch.

I looked at the mobo before unplugging it from the old case and it had
the plugs like:
[Power] [Power] [Power Switch]
[Hard Drive LED] [Reset]

But I forgot to check for blank spots, and I didn’t write down the
orientation of the speakers. So now, I can’t get the power switch to
function.

Any suggestions for pins to plug the power switch into?

Have you tried to download a manual from www.soyo.com?

http://dl.soyo.com/soyousa/manuals/k7/mk7vx6-v11.pdf

I don't see a KT600-AL model, but the two KT600 variants I checked used the
same pinouts on that block. They don't seem to match your description very
well.

The power switch pins are labeled (in the manual) PWRST. Reset is, well,
Reset. The reset, power switch, and HD LED pins are in one row (in that
order); the speaker and power LED are in the other.

HTH.

Address scrambled. Replace nkbob with bobkn.

Do what I do. Use a 4 inch magnifying glass, and you
will be able to read the new pin settings. Might take a
few minutes to figure out, but you will.

Ok, I found out what was wrong, the plastic tab that spaces the mobo
from the case fell out at some point and was shorting the mobo. Once
the board was taken out of the case, it works fine.

Thanks for the reply!

OK, so when i pulled the mobo out of the case, set it on some non
metal and used a screwdriver on the connector posts, the computer
started up, no hdd installed, so i just turned off the power and
waited until i had the plastic tab.

Now, the computer won’t fire at all, I am getting extremely
frustrated, what am I missing in my frustration?

Proper installation in the first place? The manual should tell you
exactly where to place the metal standoffs. Try that.

I'm going to die rather sooner than I'd like. I tried to protect my
neighbours from crime, and became the victim of it. Complications in
hospital following this resulted in a serious illness. I now need a bone
marrow transplant. Many people around the world are waiting for a marrow
transplant, too. Please volunteer to be a marrow donor:

That’s part of the entire problem, the owner of the computer does not
have the manual...

Whatever caused the old case and hard drive to mess up may have caused
some damage to the mobo, so I will just have to concede that I’m
either missing something simple on it, or there is damage to the mobo.
Either way, I don’t have anything else to try.

Thanks for the replies all...

But you said it worked out of the case???
Can't be the motherboard then.
You're not using oversize washers (metal) or something are you?
Pop it in the case & hook up exactly as you did outside. Does it do the
same?
