MMC won't open and no Network Identification Tab

M

I just noticed a day or 2 ago that I can no longer open up the MMC or
any MMC related snap in. I get no errors or anything. It just doesn't
open. I also noticed my Network Identification Tab is missing in my
system properties. I'm running Windows 2000 SP4 with all the latest
patches. I have full Administrative rights (everything USED to work!).
I ran a full virus scan and found nothing. I've also logged in as
"Adminstrator" and the same things happen. Please help! Thanks!

Mike

Check Event Viewer for errors.

I did check the Event Logs and there was nothing in there. And since I
can't use a MMC, I had to user a Resource Kit utility to export the
Event logs to a file!

Already checked the Event Logs and there were no errors. And since I
can't run any MMCs, I had to use the Resource Kit utilities to export
the logs to text files!

From a command prompt;
sc query type= service
and look for any that have a non-zero WIN32_EXIT_CODE or SERVICE_EXIT_CODE

I tried the in place upgrade, but when I did the R to repair, I got a
message that the drive would be wiped out because no operating system
was found or something like that. That's not the normal message I
should get, is it?

Dave Patrick

No it isn't.

FYI - It's fixed! I did a Fast Repair and it worked! Then I reapplied
all the services packs and patches. My no OS found problem was because
I didn't specify my controller when running setup. I have on board
Promise RAID with mirrored drives. Thanks!

Dave Patrick

Glad to hear it's sorted.
