MMC TV's control panel is embedded inside TV picture

Help: I launched the TV after closing out the DVD player while it was
in full-screen Easy-Launch mode, and now my TV tuner control panel is
embedded inside my TV window rather than being attached below it where
it's supposed to be.

How do I get it out? It's overlaid on the bottom of the TV picture
itself. If I shrink the Display Size down to a small window, the
control panel disappears.

This is all while using the Classic skin for the TV; switching to
other skins pulls the control panel out to the external box where it's
supposed to be, but I can't stand those other skins. Switching back to
Classic skin, it reverts to being embedded inside the picture.

This happened once before, and I recall it didn't go away that time
until I reinstalled the whole MMC. Don't want to have to go through
that again.

Am running Multimedia Center v9.08 with an ATI 9800 Pro video card,
all latest drivers and software installed.

If you know a more appropriate forum for this question, please advise;
it's the best I could come up with searching Google Groups. And anyone
who's tried knows that contacting ATI/AMD directly is pointless.

Questions about ATI multimedia are asked here all the time. Unfortunately I
don't have an answer.

I've been using the modern skin since MMC7.7 Using 9.06 at the moment. When
I switched to classic I had the same thing you do. Looked to me like the
window & full screen settings are reversed. When I turned on a second
monitor was able to pull the controls off the FS and onto the other monitor.
Not really a fix though as it reverts when going to window mode. Wasn't able
to find anything that looked like a setting for this in the registry. Maybe
this will help you find the answer though.

Repair installs are very easy. Try that. Good Luck

Thanks for that T Shadow. I managed to get the control panel pulled
back out just last night, basically by a variant of repeating the
process that got it locked in, firing up in EasyLook (which I usually
avoid for TV). It's fun SW but sure can be quirky.

Forgot to mention I don't use EasyLook. seems to get in my way so I just put
Icons on the desktop instead.

Besides not liking the colors of the Classic skin occasionally the control
panel would get attached to the TV window and would have to go to another
skin to get it off. So the skins do seem to add to the quirkiness. Too bad,
the layout of Classic is the best IMHO.

Whatever works :)

I'm now using my computer as my sole TV and DVD viewer, so for DVDs at
least I find EasyLook necessary only so that I can use the Remote
Wonder--most of the buttons on it don't seem to function without
EasyLook. Otherwise I'd do without it, especially since it's the cause
of my embedded TV control panel problem: closing out MMC while in DVD
EasyLook, then starting TV later, and it wants to launch from
EasyLook. (There's no way to exit EasyLook from the remote, must be
done from the keyboard.)

The same embedded problem, BTW, just returned: so far haven''t been
able to extract it like I did before; maybe will reinstall MMC, am
just loathe to have to go through all the channel setup and skins
selection process (the latter overly tedious IMO) again.

We've got opposite preferences with the control panel in Classic skin:
I like having it snapped to the bottom of the TV frame, and have spent
a good bit of time figuring out how to get it to do so when it become
detached. Here's the solution I finally found: size the TV frame to
roughly the same width as the control panel, place both in the lower-
right corner of the screen, and then with a fair amount of trial match
the two borders together around until it 'snaps' into place. Maybe
that can help you figure out how to detach it as well.

I have a different MMC problem. Maybe either of you can shed some light.

I've lost the ability to use ThroughView. I have it set for 40% in
Settings, so the capability does present itself. But when I right click
on the TV picture, ThroughView isn't provided as an option.

The maddening thing is that when I first installed my HD 2600,
ThroughView worked just fine. But I can't get it back. I've even tried
installing the original version of MMC that came with the card, but
ThroughView didn't return.

I didn't like the fact that when using ThroughView I couldn't shrink the
picture to postage stamp size. On the upside, I've found that when I
select "Always on Top" I can get the picture to the size I want. But
it's always obstructing something and I'm always having to move it
around. I'd rather have the ability to see through the picture and
select things behind it.

I am about 75% convinced I can get ThroughView back -- that I've just
got something set wrong. But what? Any ideas?

I used ThruView just long enough to realize it was a great hack but not very
useful for me. I seem to recall some of the newer versions I've used
referring to the settings being configurable but no mention of it in this
version. Can just use it or not. I'd try looking in the AVIVO setting of
Catalyst Control Center on your card. Uhh......using ThruView to look
through the help files may work better.:)
