MMC - Failed to create empty document

I am trying to run MMC. From the command line, I get this
error: 'Failed to create empty document.' If I try to
run a snapin, it doesn't load at all, no error. Rebooting
didn't help.

Any ideas?

Are you saying you went to Start, Run and typed MMC. Then a DOS Prompt is displayed with the mmessage - "Failed to create empty document" ?

I am not clear on what you are doing.

The version of Microsoft Management Console that ships with Windows 2000 is not
listed in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base Article. However, it seems
reasonable that the causes and resolutions listed could still apply.

KB231757 - PRB: MMC: Management Console May Fail to Start
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=231757

Specifically, make certain that the following folder exists. If the volume is
formatted NTFS make certain you have Full Control permission of the folder. And if
the drive containing this directory is full, clear some space.

C:\Documents and Settings\%UserName%\Local Settings\Temp

Note: The Local Setting folder is hidden. If necessary configure Windows Explorer
to show Hidden folders by using Control Panel | Folder Options | View [tab]: Click to
select: "Show hidden files and folders".

And for information on how "To set, view, change, or remove file and folder
permissions", search Windows 2000 Help for the words in double-quotes.
