MM2/Media Player Colors Wrong

XPH-SP2--avi and windows media movies (including the example movie that
comes with XP) are playing with the incorrect colors. The thumbnail image
in Windows Explorer is correct, but the colors as the movie plays are
incorrect. This is happening in MovieMaker, Media Player 9, and Irfanview
media player.

I can get approximately the correct colors in media player if I set the
Saturation to full red and the Hue to full blue.

On my other XPH-SP2 machine the movies all play correctly, so it appears to
be a video problem on the one machine.

Any ideas? I've seen one post that indicated installing MediaPlayer10 will
correct the problem, but I'd rather not upgrade if I don't have to.

Tried reinstalling Media Player 9 -- no happy.

TIA,

mikkl

Following a hint in another area, I may have solved the problem. It was
related to the Overlay settings in the display driver. Seems that
somehow the display driver overlay settings were messed up (S3 on-board
video). Resetting these to default corrected the problem in all video
playing software.

Hope this helps someone,

Hi

It seems I'm having the same problem, the video plays perfectly when in the
project stage but when played with windows media player the pictures quality
is almost like negetaive art scenario (bright reds, green, yellows etc).

What exactly do you mean by Overlay settings in the display driver? Where an
I find this to re-set to default?

Thanks

If you are seeing the colors correct in Movie Maker and wrong in Media
Player, this is probably a problem in Media Player.

Try looking here:

Tools->Options->Performance->Advanced->Video Acceleration. Try the various
options there for using or not using overlays and other forms of color
correction. In my correctly working installation, all of the Video
Acceleration settings are selected.

As for the video display settings, I prefer to Right click on an empty
space on the desktop and select Properties. Then go to Settings->Advanced
and look for a tab that is customized by your video card manufacturer.
There may be more than one. Browse these tabs and sub-settings until you
find one that mentions Overlays. Normally, there is a button there for
returning to default settings. Click this button and then OK your way back
to the desktop.

Hope this helps,

mikkl
