I want to do dual-monitor setup on a PC with XP. Is there any chance
that a random PCI VGA card and drivers will work with an existing
card?

Just asking. I expect the general answer is no.

The simply sollution would be a dual montor capable card
and Often more cost effective

Wouldn't it be easier to go to Start, Help and Support, search on
Multiple Monitors, select "Install multiple monitors", read the
instructions and notes provided as well as the list of hardware that
will work?

Most ATi or nVidia based AGP video card seem to have two connectors (VGA and
DVI) which allows you to have dual monitors on one video card. The chances
are extremely "vague" if you are going to mix and match video card. If you
selected on manufacturer of video card, you will have greater chances if you
add a PCI card made by the same company.
