Missing windows/syst32\config\system

When I updated my nortons antivirus, the screen froze then rebooted. Came to
a screen with the message in subject. When I entered bios by pressing delete
key,the primary hard drive said none. It showed my secondary hd. I powered
down and rebooted and it started with no problems. Can anyone explain this?
