missing the directory tree in explorer

I just downloaded updates for windows 2000. Now when I
open Windows Explorer the directory tree for the left pane
is missing. Is someething broken or is there a setting I
am not aware of?

Is it gray or not visible. If not visible goto View menu->Explorer
Bar->Folders
