missing system32/config/system file - KB fix wont work...

I have the "missing system32/config/system file" problem, but when I tried
the fix listed in the KB it wouldnt work.
md wouldnt create a folder,
copy couldnt find the files to copy
and everytime i tried 'dir' i get a enumeration error.

Basically, my HD is partitioned into 2 drives (C,D). I can afford to lose
everything on the C drive (where windoze is installed) but if possible i
would like to save anything on the D drive. FOr some reason i cannot simply
use 'format' either.

Can anyone help? anything that will help me keep the info on the d drive if
possible.

Thanks, im getting desperate and am running out of things to try!

Thanks! John
