Missing System Tray Icons?

N

Nick Meyer

Hello,

I've been trying the MASW Beta under XP Professional, and
I've noticed that since I installed it, icons have been
missing from my system tray. These include the "Safely
Remove Hardware" icon, the Volume Control and Power Options
icons, the SQL Server Manager icon installed with MSDE, and
the AntiSpyware icon itself (I haven't set the program to
hide its icon). Other icons, such as my network
connection, Norton Ghost, and McAfee are still present. If
I re-enable the volume or power icons, they still don't
show up at next reboot. Oddly enough, if explorer.exe
crashes and restarts itself, the missing icons will show up
again.

Is this a known issue, and if not, are there other likely
causes that anyone knows of? I couldn't find anything in
the knowledge base.

Thanks

Right click the taskbar > properties > Notification area > Customize > look
if the behaviour for those system tray icons have changed.

Nope, in the customize dialog, the missing icons show up under the "Past
Items" group, and even if I set them to "Always Show," they still won't
show up. The "Safely Remove Hardware" icon should certainly be there,
as I have an Iomega external USB hard drive plugged in, and it seems to
be working except for the missing icon.

I did try uninstalling the beta, and the icons are still missing, so
this may be related to another piece of software. However, on a clean
install of Windows, they seem to work properly until I install AntiSpyware.

Thanks for your help.
