Missing Something obvious

I have just connected my laptop to a wireless home network via a USB
wireless kit and I can't get it to see the network but it can see the
internet.

The laptop has previously been connected to the home network via a pcmcia
wireless card but this isnt available now. I have installed the software and
then plugged the aerial in as per the instructions. It has found the home
network and shows a connection with about 50% signal. i have entered the
access code for the network and it appears to have connected. If i start
internet explorer it gets out to the WWW without a problem.

If i try to navigate around the workgroup it can see the other two computers
in the network but wont allow access to them or to the two external USB hard
drives that are connected. It is one of these drives i want it to connect to
as it has my music files on it i want to play in the room where the laptop
is.

I have tried all the things i can think of but its a long while since I had
to set up the network becuase it all worked fine without a problem
previously. I would welcome any suggestion as to what i may be missing.

For info the laptop has a USB wireless aerial which connects it to WAP which
is in turn wired to a internet/router. There is one other computer
connecting to the wireless part of the network without problem and one on a
wired connection

Any suggestions welcomed

Thanks

Paul,

What's the actual error message when the computer "can see the other two
computers in the network but wont allow access to them"?

Take a look at "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each computer, so we
can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow
instructions precisely (download browstat!):
