Missing Shortcut

Dale Leathead

When I attempt to send a file to my CD-RW drive by right
clicking on the file to be sent, I get to the Send To
menu line. When I click on F drive (my CD-RW drive), an
error message comes, "The item 'F:\' that this shortcut
refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut
will no longer work properly."

This problem has been addressed by Microsoft in their
Knowledge Base article #Q307146 dated 10/18/2001 in which
they state: "Microsoft has confirmed that this is a
problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the
beginning of this article." They further state "The items
in the Staging Area are not the actual files to be
copied. They are shortcuts to the files, which are
actually stored in a different location. Making a
shortcut to a file in the Staging Area would just create
a shortcut to a shortcut." They give no additional
information nor any resolution of the problem.

Has any resolution been found for this troublesome
problem?

I don't think the article you're referring to addresses the problem you're
having (the article just discusses why "Create Shortcut" is not available on
the right-drag context menu).

Are you able to copy files directly to F: manually?
