Missing shell32.dll message

Hi folks,
I am trying to reinstall Windows XP Pro into a white box system.
I have two legit copies of the Windows XP software. When get to the
installing files section of the process, I get a message that the shell32.dll
was not copied properly.

Would it be better to reformat the C: partition before installing? Does that
make a difference for this problem?

Does anyone have any suggestions?

A clean install is always better, format, install

You might also have a dirty CD, wash it with dishsoap, rinse, dry well
and try again.

Just one, copy the XP CD (i386 directory and the setup.exe file) to
the hard drive, a different partition would be best, and run the setup
for there.

If you need shell32.dll you can download it here
http://download.yousendit.com/23E57A650C471D2BIt's right off the CD,
if you need it expanded - in a CMD window type:
expand shell32.dl_ shell32.dll

To install from there you would need a Win98 boot disk
http://bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm (oem)

You will need to download and add smartdrv.exe to the win98 disk
http://vetusware.com/download/SMARTDRV.EXE/?id=52
or it could take a day to install.

To the Autoexec.bat file (Win98) add:
LOADHIGH C:\SMARTDRV.EXE 2048

Boot up with the Win98 disk and run setup from the Hard drive.

LOADHIGH C:\SMARTDRV.EXE 2048

of course change the C:\ to A:\ - in the case the smartdrv file is to
large to fit on the floppy - you could put it on the C:\ drive.
