Missing Shell.dll File

A

Al Klayton

All of a sudden, on startup of XP Pro I get the message that the file
Shell.DLL cannot be found. I click OK and things seem to proceed normally. A
search for the file finds it in c:\windows\system. Should it also be in a
startup file somewhere?
Thx,
Al

Try to search for dll in a search engine on the internet.
Then save to c:\windows\system.

This is likely the result of a parasite spyware app being installed on the
system. First step is to run your anti-virus program and make sure that the
file definitions are up to date.

Go to http://www.aumha.org/a/parasite.htm and read that entire web page.
It will get you up to speed on what is happening and how to avoid these
types of problems in the future.

I am having this problem as well, and I tried to access that link that you
posted and I couldn't because it's old or not available or something. Anyway,
along with that problem I get this message about appus.exe at start up too.
I have been trying to locate these files but I dont know how to fix this
problem. I found this download called PC Doctor Oncall. For 29$ it claims to
be able to fix my problem. Is this possible? Does Microsoft have a fix type
program I can install. what do you suggest a novice like me to do?
