Missing "Search" menu item-----"files and folders"

Running Win2000 with all the upgrades on a laptop.

When I go to Start->Search only two pop over menu items
appear: "on the internet" "for people" The menu item
for "files and folders" disappeared. I must have screwed
something up but can't figure it out. Anyone run into
this problem and know how to solve it?

I can still access the Search Assistant window by right
clicking on the "My Computer" desktop icon.

Thanks in advance

yep

Have you tried going into your group policy to if it is
configured to show up?
go to start
run and type MMC
go to console go to add/remove snap in
add group policy click add and go to User
configuration>>administrative templates then start menu &
taskbar there should be something there that says remove
search menu from start make sure it says disabled or
better yet not configured!

Thanks, I did as you suggested. I found the
policy "remove search menu from start menu" and the
setting is "not configured." In fact all of the policies
under "start menu & taskbar" are set to "not configured."
What's my next step?
